Great staff, and the location was excellent. Good breakfast and when they finish remodeling it will be very nice! Our room was very nice and with nice windows that open!

The hotel was quirky and had bags of character. The room was large, charming, very comfortable and had a luxurious bathroom. The location was perfect, a very short walk to Bryggen and the waterfront area. The food in the restaurant was very good, albeit with a fairly limited menu although this is really to be expected given the relative small size of the restaurant. Breakfast was also very good. When we arrived and found earplugs on the bedside table, we were rather concerned but it was actually very quiet. Would we go back if we were to visit Bergen again?....definitely!

Work is still underway to improve the area outside the hotel and it should be much better when this is all complete. There was no information pack in the room.

Very nice and spacious rooms in an old building complex.

Ventilation in the room cannot be switched off. Although windows can be opened.

Our stay was comfortable. The location was very good. Maybe a small wardrobe would have improved convenience when using this hotel as a base for a stay of several days...Included beakfast was excellent. The overall experience was very good.

Excellent large modern room with all amenities

Wow - just wow. Excellent, excellent location. Really could not be more perfect. The Fish Market is across the street, the Hanseatiske Museum is just downstairs and the waterfront is immediately outside the front door. The decor is lovely and the rooms spacious and comfortable. Bathrooms are huge (by European standards). Many restaurants close-by for dining and the included breakfast is wonderful.

    Pricey, but totally worth it!

The front desk staff was helpful.

I did not like that the guest rooms could be accessed from the street, alley, etc. without walking through the lobby. As a single female traveler, I usually choose small hotels because they feel more secure. This did not. Also, the alley got very noisy at night. I was immediately concerned when I noticed complimentary ear plugs on the night stand.

Are you looking for a Norwegian old style accomodation, Det Hanseatiske Hotel is the place to stay

  • Older travelers

A very individual type of hotel, having incorporated modern day services and facilities with a historical site and traditional building style (The Bryggen, Bergen) given both comfort and an intriguing ambience. The wooden nature of the oriinal buildings is still much in evidence, with the quirks and eccenticities of their construction still visible or to be sensed. There are one or two small discrepancies (such as an ill-fitting window frame0 but with the nature of the buildings this may have to be allowed for as an inevitability. Welcome and service, the unassuming friendliness and attentivness of staff is beyond reproach; the furnishing and comfort of the rooms make them a pleasure to relax in. A very unusual hotel, a luxurious quality and is deserving of an award of excellence.

Not a lot. Alowance has to be made for apparent discrepancies really being a reflectionof the natuer and style of the buildings. Access by vehicle is restricted and no doubt bewildering to a new, unacquainted arrival...it can also confuse some taxi drivers where it is or how to find it!

The location is ideal! It is located in the historic section of Bergen just steps from the fish market and visitor center. The rooms are spacious with every modern convenience but have the ambiance of "old world" charm. The breakfast area was just remodeled and the food selection excellent. If you want to stay in the "heartbeat" of Bergen, I highly recommend this hotel.

The hotel is comprised of two older building with connecting passageways. It can be a bit of a maze. This difficulty was enhanced due to construction. Don't let the main entrance discourage you. It is located on a side street close to large trash bins. But open the door and you will find a charming hotel.

The hotel was very unique. Beds very comfortable. Bathroom was excellent and included a bath, lovely big towels and face washers. Very good. Great central location. Have already recommended hotel as a great place to stay. Would love to see it when the renovations are finished.

It was being renovated so was a bit of a mess downstairs. Bar and restaurant weren't open.

Situated centrally and in the historic Bryggen area of Bergen in an old wooden building. Sympathetically modernised but retaining charming details and fitted with luxurious bathrooms

  • Older travelers

Small and friendly. Interesting design and decor. Lots of character. A welcome change to the many large soleless hotels in the well known chains. Great location. Good food although the breakfast choices could be improved a little. Could be a little noisy but ear plugs supplied.

Charming historic buildings with modern comfort and ideal location for Bergen and environs sightseeing, harbor and shops

The hotel is delightful. The rooms are quite beautiful, with traditional furnishings and fittings which give them a wonderful old-fashioned charm. The staff are nice too, very friendly and helpful. And the location next to the old harbour is perfect for exploring the best parts of Bergan. We loved this hotel.
